Choosing the Right Charger
We fit a range of home and commercial chargers, including:
- Tethered chargers, with the cable fixed to the unit
- Untethered chargers, where you plug in your own cable
- Smart chargers with app control and scheduled charging
- Workplace and commercial charging points
Since 2022, chargers sold for homes and workplaces in Great Britain must be smart chargers, which can schedule charging for cheaper off peak times.
Checking Your Supply
A typical home charger draws around 7kW, so we check your main fuse, your consumer unit and your total demand before fitting. If anything needs upgrading, we tell you before any work starts.
Earthing and Safety
Many homes have a type of earthing that needs extra protection for an EV charger. Most modern chargers have this built in, and every installation is carried out to the current wiring regulations, BS 7671.
Notifying the Network
A new home charger has to be notified to the local electricity network operator. This is part of the installation process, not something you need to arrange yourself.
What Happens on the Day
Most home installations are completed in a single visit. The charger is mounted in the position agreed with you, usually on an outside wall next to the driveway or inside a garage, and a new cable is run from your consumer unit with the protection the circuit needs.
The charger is then tested and set up, and you receive an Electrical Installation Certificate. A home charger needs off street parking, because a charging cable must not be run across a public pavement without permission from the council.

It depends on the charger you choose, the distance from your consumer unit to the charger and whether your consumer unit or supply needs any work. We give a clear quote after checking your property.
Should I choose a tethered or untethered charger?
A tethered charger is quicker to use because the cable is always there. An untethered charger looks neater and works with any car, as long as you keep a cable with you. We can talk through both when we visit.
Does an EV charger need its own circuit?
Yes. An EV charger should always be on its own dedicated circuit from the consumer unit, with the right protection. It should never be run from an existing socket circuit.
